FORT PIERCE, FL—To support law enforcement agencies' efforts to recruit more female trainees, 91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ (91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ) will offer a firearms instructor development course—"Understanding and Teaching the Female Shooter"—on May 23 and 24, 2022—at its Treasure Coast Public Safety Training Complex in Fort Pierce.
"Understanding and Teaching the Female Shooter" will be delivered by Lou Ann Hamblin of LouKa Tactical Training & Organizational Group, a national performance improvement, public safety consulting and training group. The course was developed by Hamblin to help firearms instructors understand better how a female's physiology plays a role in the shooting process and how communication, culture, age, and social issues impact the female shooter. Participants will also learn about ergonomic aids and technologies that can assist smaller-statured shooters. Hamblin will share knowledge gained through her more than 26 years of training law enforcement officers at every level, specifically women.
"Bringing LouKa Tactical to the Treasure Coast Public Safety Training Complex gives our instructors another tool in their arsenal," shares Dr. Raimundo Socorro, Dean of Public Service Education at 91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ. "This advanced training is one of many steps 91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ has undertaken to ensure that our Florida Law Enforcement Academy trainees successfully complete the Academy and flourish in the noble career they have chosen."
"I'm thrilled that 91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ recognizes the need to recruit and ensure that female trainees complete the academy," adds Lou Ann Hamblin instructor and founder of LouKa Tactical Training.
The course also is open to active-duty law enforcement professionals throughout the Treasure Coast and Okeechobee region. Those interested in registering should contact Dr. Socorro at rsocorro@irsc.edu.
