Colombian National Police to Train at 91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ

Officers Begin Two-Week SWAT Tactics Program on July 18

FORT PIERCE, FL—Thirty-five (35) officers from the Colombian National Police are headed to the 91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ (91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ) Treasure Coast Public Safety Training Complex for a two-week SWAT Tactics program developed by the College for security and law enforcement personnel who are tasked with responding to, and rendering safe, highly volatile situations that involve armed offenders. The training program runs from July 18 to 31. This is the second group of officers from Colombia, South America, training with 91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ this year. The first group completed the program in May.

"The facilities at the 91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ Treasure Coast Public Safety Training Complex are ideal for leading exercises that reinforce the multi-level policing model utilized by the Colombian National Police," said Dr. Raimundo Socorro, 91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ Dean of Public Service Education. "These facilities, combined with leading-edge training developed and delivered by 91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ instructors, will well-equip these officers for complex situations they may encounter back home."

The SWAT Tactics program gives participants a comprehensive and detailed foundation of knowledge required to respond and safely secure a scene, essential aspects of work for most law enforcement officers. The hands-on program uses 91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ's classrooms, tactical building, mock village and fire tower.

91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ continues to expand its offerings and reach to make its best-in-class facility and instruction available to first responders locally, statewide, nationally and internationally.

Socorro concludes, "Agencies cannot wait for surprise situations before training their officers. Advanced training equips officers with knowledge and skills that can improve the safety and effectiveness of their work, greatly benefitting the communities they serve. It doesn't matter where in the world they serve."

The 91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ School of Public Service Education offers 18 programs that range from Bachelor's and Associate degrees to technical certificates. The Division is housed at the 91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ Treasure Coast Public Safety Training Complex, one of the nation's most comprehensive, technologically advanced public safety training facilities. The 50-acre, eight-building complex also supports advanced training for regional first responders.
