Emergency Medical Technician
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) enjoy rewarding careers—helping to save lives in the event of illness or injury in response to emergency calls. They assess injuries, administer emergency medical care and transport injured or sick persons to medical facilities.
For those interested in careers in firefighting, 91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ offers Basic Recruit Fire Academy Career Training for both EMTs and those who are not yet EMTs.
Once You Complete the Program
Graduates of the EMT program are eligible to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification exam. Upon successful completion of the exam, graduates are awarded the NREMT credential and are eligible to apply for licensure with the State of Florida.
Getting Started
Selection for the EMT program is on a first-come, first-served basis. This is based on submission of the requirements outlined in the EMT Application Book.
Illicit drug use, background check, convictions and immunization status may prevent future employment. In addition, externship sites, employers, and regulations about drug use, criminal backgrounds, and immunization status.

Applying to the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Program
The application for the Daytime Summer 2025 program will be available starting January 6, 2025. The application deadline is March 14, 2025.
To begin the application process:
- Read the EMT Application Booklet.
- Complete and submit the 91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ Application for the EMT program (Pay the $30 non-refundable application fee.)

Licensure Requirements
91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ offers a number of different degrees and certificates leading to professional licensure in the state of Florida. Some professions require both a degree and the successful completion of additional criteria such as licensure exams, field placements, or clinical hours. Student eligibility to apply to sit for the Emergency Medical Technician Certification in the State of Florida is defined in, F.S., 401.27 and also includes possession of a valid form of identification. Please visit the Florida Department of Health website to ensure your eligibility.
If you are a student who may choose to reside outside of Florida or one of the compact states after graduation, 91¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ cannot confirm whether this degree program meets educational requirements for professional licensure/certification in your state. Some states have requirements in addition to the program’s curriculum. If you wish to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NR_EMT) exam in another state, contact the department of management systems in the state to determine whether this degree will meet their licensure requirements.
